Know what? I'll give this a bash.
Why should I be a Mod? I really like the Stone, I find that it is filled with intelligent discussion, lively threads and a nice atmosphere. If I were a mod I would try to do my best to ensure that we continue to have that atmosphere and indeed to encourage the intergration of all the Johnny come latelys who pick the beasts when the new book comes into our forum. There isn't much to the stone that needs changing in my mind. The only thing I can think about is providing furthur impetus to get the herdstone magazine of the ground. Really though if it ain't broke don't fix it. Still haven't answered my original question though have I? The reason I think I could be a good mod is that I would be commited to this forum and would deal with a light hand in it's running. I'm sure any of the other fine chaps applying for this position will do the same. So thank you. Yes we can -------------------- |

I would like to offer my services to the Herdstone and join the moderating team. I believe I am a good candidate for the position for several reasons. I am frequently on the site, I usually visit at least once per day, sometimes more often, and I read all the new posts every time. So good coverage of the site there. Another reason to consider me is that I am an active participant in most every discussion and, unlike some current moderators, I don't spam, I add something useful to the convo.
If I were made a mod I would try to let free speech run its course within the bounds of the herdstone rules, which are really not restrictive at all. The herdstone community is so mature in posting anyways that there is really nothing to crack down on. I would simply try to keep things running smoothly. I have been active in the hobby for a little over 7 years so I have good experience and hopefully could offer useful advise to people with questions. Looking forward enthusiastically to the new book as I am, I could spread that energy to the new members we are sure to pick up in a few months. I'm pretty sure I've always been friendly and polite to everyone on the site and I would of course continue to do so to set a good example as a mod. Thanks for the consideration! -------------------- Battle Record (W/L/D): 73-3-6

I am somewhat interested and I have the time to do it, but I might be too confrontational for some people. As for a 500 word post, well, take any of my posts as an example.

Why not post it any way? As long as you're not too insulting it is your application. -------------------- |

I'll put my name in the hat as well.
I think the other applicants are excellent choices but wanted to add in my support for the stone as well. As some of you know I moderate on the www.thedaemoniclegion.com and also on swords of chaos on yahoo groups. I've been playing warhammer for 19+ years since 3rd edition and in that time have played a variety of armies - but chaos is my first love. I'm a GT regular and past best army winner on the GT level. I regularly win best painted awards at the RTT level. While I've run WoC (HoC to be specific) DoC (SoC by and large) and BoC at GT's over the last 5 years I ran beasts only at GT's for most of the last 2 years. I'm a member of the direwolf FAQ council - so spend a moderate amount of time hearing about and debating rules issues outside of the viewpoints of the 'race specific' forums I visit. I'm on more regularly than I'd like to admit given that I'm checking from work or sometimes from my I phone. I'm particularly interested in tactics, rules, and general warhammer discussion - though on the DL I run our painting section and am consistently a top 5 or so painter on the GT level. Prior to the advent of 'forums' I helped run a WFB tactics and strategy site in the 90's, and have been a member of direwolf since roughly it's inception. As a moderator - I've lived through the experience of 'new book - lots of eager new faces' on the DL, and have some perspective on how a new book precipitates changes in culture on a forum, frequently rancorous rules debates, and an influx of external view points. As we did most of that new book time period with a slimmer moderator crew than I'd like I also know what it's like to manage that new book flood with limited resources. Best wishes to the stone members and our future new mods. Gary N This post has been edited by gjnoronh on Oct 28 2009, 05:02 PM -------------------- |

Well then, my qualifications:
I have a pretty lengthy background with GW games and have been a fairly regular tournament player most of that time. I own most of the evil armies (and a couple of the non evil ones) but my focus has been split evenly between Beasts and Daemons the last couple years. Most of my placings have been while using beasts, though I attribute some of that to the negative comp rep DoC get and the pity points Beasts always seem to get. My favorite parts of the game are big monsters (minotaurs being a favorite fantasy creature) and my armies tend to reflect that. I am the Fantasy chair in the So Cal GW League, which basically means I am handling the day to day operations of the fantasy side of our league (which runs twice a year) and handle the rules and scenarios for our yearly GT, the Slaughter. I have been in administrative positions on gaming websites in the past and maintain a fairly large online presence for the purpose of advancing the intrests of our league. Anywhere you see me a post from Phazael (or my old EQ1 handle Jice Virago) that is probably me. While my background is mostly the gaming side of things, I do enjoy conversions and support the painting side (even though my painting sucks). My main interests always center around the competitive play aspects, however. I try to attend at least four major events a year because of this interest. I am told I am pleasant to play (and I generally always get max sports scores) and run powerful lists, but not to the far extreme. I consider myself an above average general, but an excellent list builder. My main drawbacks are my general inability to keep my mouth shut when someone is being an assclown in my general vicinity (see many threads here involving George and myself) and my general dislike of elitist pricks. I also hold grudges for extended periods of time. That said, people who have spent any time around me know that how I post is how I act in real life, too. I also have a general distrust for certain sites because of the power cliques that have risen up on them and stunted the discussion on them. In particular, I think that Druchii.net, Round Table of Brettonia, and the Herdstone to be among the best warhammer communities online. I consider asrai.net, warseer, Bell of Lost Souls, and Dakka to be among the most problematic. -------------------- 668, the Neighbor of the Beast....
