"Book one of our monthly book review".
The Mini Encyclopedia (keeping Koi) ISBN 1842861069
By "Keith Holmes, Tony Pitham and Nick Fletcher".
"This is a great little book", Keith, Tony and Nick in writing this have produced a little gem with this book. smile.gif
It is a great introduction to anyone coming into the hobby. It is split into four parts with part one looking at Equipment,it examines which equipment and systems are used to maintain the water quality koi need. ohmy.gif  smile.gif
Part Two looks at Building a pond, both liner and brick built, also design etc.
In Part three we looks at koi as prized exhibit's, their anatomy, nutritional needs, health, care and breeding and showing koi. smile.gif
In Part four we look at a well presented full and richly illustrated guide to koi colour and varieties. It is a refreshing read both to the newcomer and more experienced amongst us.
A very good buy (and reasonably priced to boot) smile.gif
By Broxandval wink.gif fishie.gif
Added Foot note :- "Though these books are primarily about Koi Carp the Goldfish Keeper will find that a lot of what the Authors have written applies to their humble cousin as well"!!!... this can be in the following fields :- Pond planning design and building, filtration, breeding, treatments, foods, maintenance etc. smile.gif

"Book Three of Monthly book review".
The Art of Koi Keeping . ISBN 0713721413 By "Peter Cole".
"Peter in this book takes away all that is mysterious to the newcomer to our hobby. It's a fully comprehensive read that covers all the bases but keeps it simple. smile.gif
(our book has all those ever present bits of paper sticking out at pages we find interesting and over the years we find this an indicator in how we rate the best of the books "It works too", )Try it you'll see. ohmy.gif
"This book has helped us out with a problem more than once".
( A must for the new and experienced in the hobby alike, Buy it you can't go wrong) smile.gif

"Book Four of Monthly Book Review".
Koi a Complete Introduction ISBN 0866223991 "Dr H R Axelrod".
"Dr Aexelrod has again produced in this book a good little book for the novice to the Hobby." smile.gif
But again the book is getting more than a little dated (good for the novice). smile.gif
"I don't know why Dr Axelrod doesnt bring his books up to date I've never seen any revised edition's anywhere, perhaps it would be a good idea for him to do so".

Modern Nishikigoi ISBN 880241024 C2076 Takeo Kuroki
"Takeo in this book takes us on a journey through all those confusing names that each class of koi have. unsure.gif This book has great Photographs to explain just what you are looking at. smile.gif
He covers the basic varieties and some of the more Unique koi".(Takeo's book is a little confusing unsure.gif in places because if he dosen't have a word for it in the Japanese to English translation then he just leaves it and carries on regardless smile.gif but at the same time makes the book more endearing to the reader. smile.gif

"Book Six of our monthly book review".
Manual of Nishikigoi ISBN. (No Number) Takeo Kuroki.
"Takeo Takes us on a journey through the world of Koi, with great pictures and really great comic illustrations throughout. laugh.gif
It covers all the bases from the Charming attraction that the koi brings with it, a macabre chapter on the darker side of Japenese koi appreciation and why it is also know as the Samuria Fish. blink.gif ohmy.gif blink.gif sad.gif
It's longevity of life, the varieties of koi there are today. smile.gif
We are taken through a very informative chapeter on koi health. smile.gif
There is a chapter on showing koi from the Japanese angle, with the top six tips of how to pick a good one in the form of Koi appreciation (the lighter side). smile.gif
Again there are words lost to translation but in our eyes this add's to the charm of this book". smile.gif

(This was our first ever koi book, one which we still use to this day in the picking of koi for shows. smile.gif
A must, go out and buy this book you cannot go wrong). smile.gif

"Book Eleven of our Monthly book review

Koi Varieties (Japanese Colored Carp Nishikigoi) ISBN 0866228853. Dr H R Axelrod. smile.gif
"Though we do like this book and Dr Axelrod, this book is now many years old, it was one of the first koi books we got , took great delight in reading but huh.gif
Again this book is fast becoming outdated and surpassed by the new Generation of Koi Author.!!!... smile.gif
So perhaps it's time for an updated version of this book". smile.gif
