Hi Folks it's
Bonfire night here in the UK once again when this Country seems to go mad over something that happened 100's of years ago and should really be consigned to history. sad.gif
Every year at this time thousands of animals both wild and tame are scared whitless by bangs and wizzes all over the land, some like our poor dillon are so frightened that it takes hour to calm him after the event. sad.gif
On a weird note here Suki loves them huh.gif
Well we are going to try a calming approach to him this year and hope it works and are buying some herbal medicine. smile.gif
Mind I must report that this year in the run up the lack of bangs which is normally the opposite smile.gif

As there are more of them burned alive in bonfires each year because they think "hey this is a great plaxe to sleep for the winter". and sometimes us human's don't check for them prior to lighting the bonfire's ohmy.gif sad.gif cryingbig.gif

So, for this day, they just light random fires in wood piles and do fireworks? We get fireworks on US 4th of July and New Years. My neighbors shoot off illegal ones and scare all the animals.

Hi Robyn
Yes it's to remember the attempted blowing up of Parliament here in the UK and every 5th November we have Bonfire night and burn a chap called Guy Fawlks on the top. ohmy.gif
He was what would be termed nowadays as a Terrorist a Papeist (Roman Catholic) who plotted with others to plow up the houses of Parliament he was Hung till almost dead then Drawn (Had his guts removed) then Quatered tied to four horses who ripped him limb from limb blink.gif ohmy.gif wacko.gif sad.gif
http://www.spartacus.schoolnet.co.uk/STUfawkes.htm
Every year his effergy is burnt across the land to comemorate this. sad.gif
Sorta sad nowadays don't you think? sad.gif

Hi Rosiemeadow
This year thankfully the calming herbal medicine we gave to Dillon seems to have mellowed him out a bit and we had no trouble with him whatsoever as he virtually slept through the entire event on Val's lap smile.gif

Dave did you have many fireworks going off around your area then? We didn't surprisingly.... credit crunch and all that people probably rather eat than burn money (quite literally). mellow.gif

Glad Dillon was ok what about Suki? Was she ok? huh.gif

Hi Colourfulfish
We had quite a few plus a massive display in Plymouth but in saying that we did notice on the run up to bonfire night far less in the way of fireworks being let off. smile.gif
Dillon virtually slept it all away , whilst Suki sat in the kitchen window and wathched ohmy.gif smile.gif

Hi All
We are not looking forwards to tonight as all those folks who didn't have a bonfire on the 5th will be having one tohight. sad.gif
Hopefully Dillon will sleep through it . smile.gif
Interestingy there was a mini Documentory on the One show "BBC One" 19:00 to 20:00 hrs last night. blink.gif smile.gif
It was about Dogs and fireworks and using a recording of the loud bangs that is played to them. huh.gif ohmy.gif
First off they start with the recording on a low volume setting, working it's way up to louder and louder bangs ohmy.gif .
This then works by getting the dog used to it and in doing so getting the dog so used to it that it doesnt freak them out anymore smile.gif
I'm wondering if the same thing will help cats? unsure.gif

I have my doubts about whether that would work, since cats freak out and go totally berserk over nothing. Sometimes after using his litter box, Bryn bolts out of the utility room and goes through the kitchen as if being pursued by a mob of ravening Rottweilers.

Hi Arey
Maybe it was a rather smelly one and he was trying to distance himself for it by pretending he was being chased by a pack of hounds from hell laugh3.gif laugh3.gif laugh3.gif laugh3.gif laugh3.gif laugh3.gif

That had never occurred to me. Since I've always had anosmia I wouldn't know how stinky the litter box gets. Maybe, Bryn has an abnormally (even for a cat) sensitive sense of smell which might account for his refusing to eat fish. But, then, how do you account for his liking to sleep in the dirty laundry basket? huh.gif
