I count 13 of these players who I saw in Chicago at Wrigley last year! How many times have you seen that before?!??! Not many!

I don't know what to think about it, really. Does this mean we have good new players on the Cubs roster this year....or, were we as bad as all that last year?

Or....both??

I certainly hope we have improved in Wrigley this year....and, have not merely exported the problems to Iowa.....

They're gonna be good. I'm assuming Jason Hart (who?) and Hoorelbeke (say what?) can play outfield too, because only three outfielders is kinda weird.

The rotation should be good, and hopefully we'll get to see Cherry close.

Rocky Cherry is one of my favorites. I am sincerely pulling for Rocky!!

When I was there...back in 1976....they were the Iowa Oaks....

Hope they can live up to the staff they have as a result of the Cubs demotions....and, the promise of the AAA-ers!

They should be fun to watch and follow.....

You got the wrong thread, Joe!!

"Mom, apple pie (substitute cherry), and wrapping yourself in the American flag" are W's crutches in the political threads....for when you are sick and tired of talking about baseball!

Somebody should tell W that!!

I wonder how Mr. Prior feels waking on the Iowa River rather than the Chicago River?

Big difference!

I was at the Opening game Thursday night and Pie looked hideous! In the third with one man out on a slow two bouncer fielder's choice RR's 1st baseman threw to the pitcher covering first, Pie lallygagging around second was over half way to third and had actually stopped; he could've made it but got thrown out at third after the pitcher dropped the ball before throwing it!

I guess he thought there were two outs. That's the only thing we could think of given the way he was reacting; or not I should say. Bottom line is that it was pathetic. He could've been on third with two outs and Angel Pagen @ bat. Pagen also stunk.

On a positive note we met the family of Mike Fontenot; who must be a Junior since that's his dads name also. Great people. I think we may be all having dinner at this cool underground'ish seafood joint here today since it's raining and there will most certainly be a rain out for todays game here.

Hey, Nom.....

Mrs. Zip and I love to take in Round Rock Express games when we are in Austin! Glad to see you follow them, too! That is a beautiful ballpark they play in!

Meanwhile, back in Des Moines, there are some great, near-great, and not-so-great ballplayers vying for the trip to Chicago. Wonder if the former-greats, Prior and Wood, will be able to move up to the near-great category? Hope so...but, if not....there are plenty of others on that squad who are very close to Wrigley.

I look forward to competing against your Shadow Bats in Week Two of CK 2007 Fantasy Baseball League play! Good luck!

Dell Diamond is a great little park. You should let us know next time you guys are headed this way. I've been wanting to see a game in Iowa for years now and have not yet had the pleasure.

As for the fantasy baseball; I'm going to need some luck. I haven't started out so great and on Thursday I've got like maybe five people that can even "play."

Dropped the first of the double header today and didn't have it in us to take in the second. It's too damp and wet still and though Nolan Ryans grill there has some great food (a foot long sirloin dog; need I say more) we need some home cooking this evening.

Happy Passover!

We took in the Express-Zephyrs game the other night. Great park....really!

Funny thing... but, we remember when the Zephyrs were in Denver....and, nobody ever imagined baseball in N.O.!

Sheesh!

Actually, the Zephyres were more entertaining than the Rockies....except, when the Cubbies come to town.

Heh-heh-heh

Hope you and yours are well, nom.....

(BTW....the Zips suck!)

Murton is now a AAA Cub. No freaking way he's worse than Jacque. That's crap.

We must've posted at the same time. He's not as bad as Jones, but until Hendry moves Jacque, there's not much else he can do. Murton's kind of worthless if he can't play everyday.

 We certainly did.

I know Jacque can't be DFA'd (no return on the investment) or sent down (veteran status), but for crying out loud, move his ass for a bucket of balls and have Murton play everyday. Simple as that. If he struggles over the next 75 or so at bats after being left in everyday, THEN send him down. Jones is hitting the same with worse defense. MOVE HIM! grrr... :taz:

Unfortunately, the clock is ticking on Floyd's hamstrings...and knees...and ankles...his feet...left rotator cuff...right ulnar nerve...his ouchy place...

The next season he spends healthy will be his first in a loooooong time. Can't count on him. :(

So....if and when Floyd gets hurt, bring up Murton....who has been playing everyday and learning right field.

That's gotta be the plan. Don't misunderstand me, Floyd's been much better than Murton or Jones (I might be better than Jones), but Floyd has the Prior/Wood HMO discount plan. He'll be checking into the clinic any week now.

The only value Murton will ever have is as a number 2 hitter as he has absolutely no power but he does get on base at a decent enough clip. The problem is that very few teams can afford to have a corner outfielder that can't hit for power and drive in runs. And that list includes the Cubs. Had the Trib been serious in their quest to go for the World Series in their final year of ownership Carlos Lee would be this teams starting leftfielder.

You know what pisses me off, Joe? The fact that the Cubs organization took such a "hands-off" approach concerning Rafael Furcal after he intentionally hurt Derrick Lee.

I will never forgive Hendry for that.

Now, we see the same thing lining up...according to rumors on the boards....concerning Chris Young for Zambrano. If this carp is true, I will personally punch out Jim Hendry.

Perhaps, it is nothing; but, then, that is what we said this time last year about Soriano, isn't it?

I figure Hendry is gone, anyway....and, so is Zambrano; so, I am thinking in terms of the reality in 2008.

Hendry is my least favorite person in the organization right now. I just think a new owner will come in and decide to take a year to evaluate the organization which means Hendry will still be here next year. I hope I'm wrong but I think that is what will happen. MLB will never approve an owner like Cuban that would come in with both guns blazing. $20 bucks says I'm not happy with the new owners.

I don't see why San Diego would trade Young for Z with Z's impending free agency and the fact they control Young at a relative cheap price for a few years. And should Hendry decide to trade Z, I expect he'll get far less return than Chris Young, who's a pretty good pitcher. I have faith in Hendry doing the wrong thing.

As far as retaliating against players...MLB and the umps are making sure the Cubs don't. Hudson hits Soriano,...NOTHING. Lily hits Renteria....YOU'RE OUTTA HERE!!! Renteria forearms Fontenot...NOTHING. Young hits Lee in the head...NOTHING until the fight, which by the way the resulting suspensions will hurt the Cubs a lot more than the Padres. LOU gets hot and kicks dirt on the ump...ejected and suspended. Anyone for the Cubs does anything they'll be ejected, fined, suspended, and if Selig could have his way, hung and electrocuted.

Mrs. Zip and I had planned on going to the Iowa Cubs vs Albuquerque Isotopes series. But, literally, at the last minute, my work schedule was changed so that we were able to attend all three games in Arlington....Cubs-Rangers.

Sheesh!

I should have stayed with the original plan! That Arlington series was NOT fun!

But, we blew our budget for travel, tickets, etc. So, we will have to wait on the I-Cubs. Maybe, in Okie City or places south....

The Randall High School Raiders recently lost in the state playoffs at Dell. Nice for the boys to play in a great facility, though!
